Almonds Go on a Diet?

Published: Jul 22, 2012 · Modified: Aug 8, 2014 by Marisa Moore·

It’s rare to hear of a food with fewer calories than expected. Well… new research suggests that almonds have about 20% fewer calories than once thought. The research showed that a 1 ounce serving of almonds (~ 23 almonds) has 129 calories, not 160 calories as currently listed. That’s good news right?

Almonds were already one of my favorites.  They taste good and offer up a hefty serving of protein, calcium and fiber.  They are quite versatile.  I usually just snack on them during the day but they are also great in salads and in fish and vegetable dishes. And don’t forget about almond butter –  it makes a good base for dips or just as a toast topper.

So that’s my good news for the week… now if only those researchers can get to work on cupcakes!
