File this under too cool for school! I was recently featured in my alumni magazine. It was both fun and exciting to be interviewed, do the photo shoot and bust some of the most common nutrition myths along the way. Check out the full Entrepreneurial Eats feature here.
So, some of you know my story. If not… here’s a short version. I didn’t always know I would be a registered dietitian. In fact, I never even knew about the profession until I was a few semesters in as a chemical engineering major at Georgia Tech. I ended up there because people told me I was good at math and science. So, why not be an engineer?
After doing a summer internship in engineering, I knew that it was not a good fit for me. I started looking around to see how I could transfer all of the physics, chemistry and calculus classes I’d already taken into something I’d enjoy. This along with my lifelong passion for food and education led me to get a BS in nutrition science. I haven’t looked back since.
I love food. And I am clear that teaching is part of my calling in life. I am also a lifelong learner. I can’t help it. The fact that nutrition science is constantly evolving, keeps me engaged and challenged.
Can’t wait to see where the journey takes me next!

Great photo, Marisa! Loved the article–had no idea that you had been on a different path before becoming an RD.

Thanks, Meme! So nice to hang out last weekend. Too bad you won’t be here next month but definitely let me know when you’re in Atlanta. We’ll do dinner, lunch, something food related 🙂
