This weekend was gorgeous. Point blank. Period. I chose to enjoy the warm, sunny weather outside… working from the porch, walking and jogging, playing with the dog and visiting the neighborhood nursery.
Like the rest of the country, we had a real winter this year. Maybe I’m still in shock but spring is sneaking up on me. I realized this weekend that I still need to plan this year’s garden. The stop at the nursery was my first attempt at getting in gear. While there, I fell in love with some red mustard greens and found the prettiest lettuce I’ve ever seen.
Since the chance for an additional frost or two is very likely, I decided to plant the lettuce in a container so I can easily bring it inside or cover it. Plus, I can leave it on the deck for easy access. Here’s to delicious salads and more through May. I hope. I’m still new at this, y’all!
I’m going to keep my garden small this year and use a combination of containers and my raised bed garden for the hardier crops. Are you planting anything this spring? I’d love to hear about it in the comments or on twitter.
