Honey Lime Grilled Cantaloupe

This easy grilled cantaloupe recipe combines two of my summer favorites: sweet, juicy fruit and smoky flavor from the grill.

I’m back with a new Try it Tuesday post. And this one is super simple. Grilled Cantaloupe. I’ve had grilled peaches, grilled pineapple and even grilled watermelon but until this week, I had not tried grilled cantaloupe.

The main reason: I eat it before I think to cook it. I usually just eat it plain or with a sprinkle of salt. Lately the cantaloupe has been so delicious and juicy that I have been adding it to salads with arugula, feta and a simple dressing of olive oil and white balsamic vinegar.

This is really a non-recipe. To grill the cantaloupe, I brushed the grill with grapeseed oil (any neutral, high heat standing oil will do) and grilled the cantaloupe until the beautiful marks appeared. I like to grill fruit on skewers so it’s ready to serve at cookouts. Eat it just as is or squeeze the juice of a lime over the cantaloupe followed by a drizzle of honey as I did here. You can also serve it with a dollop of Greek yogurt for a heartier dessert or for breakfast the next day.

So this is a definite keeper but I’ll share this. While you can grill the cantaloupe on an indoor grill, I wouldn’t bother doing it that way again. The indoor grill gives you the pretty grill marks but doesn’t provide any of the smoky flavor you expect from those marks. All that work for no real flavor benefit!

Chances are I’ll be eating most of my fruit un-grilled the rest of the season too but it’s nice to have the option!
